Originally fitted with a 4-cylinder Ford engine, this 1970 Marcos GT was one of the first Marcos’ retro-fitted with a Rover V8, paving the way for the the marque’s most popular models. Though cosmetically in good condition, this Marcos requires significant work to make it roadworthy.

Finished in Subaru Mica Blue and sitting on ‘Ally Cat’ wheels, this GT exudes the ‘retro performance’ look: a front air dam, beefier V6 bonnet, racing roundels, and twin-exit exhausts all add to its sporting pedigree. This theme continues on the inside, with Sabelt harnesses and a row of classic rocker switches being both functional and aesthetically in keeping with the car. Black leather, in reasonable condition, colour-matching dark blue carpets, and classic Smiths instruments on a plain black dashboard make the interior a pleasant place to be.

The Rover V8 fitted to this GT, a power unit well renowned for its superb torque output and gorgeous sound, starts and runs. A single 4-barrel carburetor feeds the 3500cc unit, which is paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox.

The car will need chassis and mechanical work before it can be put back on the road. Our inspection revealed several major defects, the most notable being heavily corroded sill tubes and exhaust manifolds. We have not been able to test drive the car so the condition of the braking system, suspension, and axle cannot be assessed beyond visual inspection, however, it is safe to assume that there will be multiple components that need refurbishment or replacement.
