Now available through Redline Sportscars, this comprehensively engineered turbocharged MX-5 represents a properly executed fast road build — developed as a complete package rather than simply a power upgrade.

Finished in A5 Satellite Blue with gloss black hard top and detailing, sitting on OZ Ultraleggeras, the car presents with a clean, understated aesthetic. Underneath, however, is a serious specification.

Engine & Turbo System

The proven 1.8 BP engine has been turbocharged via a TIG-welded log manifold and breathes through a full 3” fabricated exhaust system with rear silencer (98db compliant).

Supporting modifications have been carried out correctly to ensure reliability and consistency:

  • Bosch EV14 550cc injectors

  • Walbro 190lph in-tank fuel pump

  • Larger throttle body

  • AN oil and water feed/return lines for turbo

  • Boost regulator

  • Front mount intercooler with proper ducting

  • Fabricated charge pipework

  • Mishimoto aluminium radiator

  • Cooling re-route

  • Thermostatic oil plate

  • 13-row oil cooler with ducting

  • BOFI uprated clutch

Engine management is via a Motorsport Electronics ECU, professionally mapped to produce 190hp at the wheels on wastegate spring pressure. The delivery is strong, responsive and highly usable — with excellent mid-range torque.

Transmission & Differential

  • 5-speed gearbox fitted

  • 6-speed gearbox supplied with the vehicle

  • 4.1 ratio differential

  • Type 1 Torsen limited slip differential

The shorter 4.1 final drive complements the turbo torque curve perfectly, delivering urgent in-gear acceleration while maintaining drivability.

Chassis & Geometry

Significant attention has been given to handling and geometry:

  • HSD coilovers

  • Steering rack riser blocks (bump steer correction)

  • Whiteline front anti-roll bar with adjustable drop links

  • Rear anti-roll bar removed

  • Rear lower arms converted to spherical bearings at the hub

  • Rear upper hub bush converted to spherical

  • Front strut brace

  • MR2 rear hub flange conversion (not fitted)

The spherical rear conversions are a notable upgrade, maintaining geometry under load and providing increased rear stability and traction when driven hard.

Braking System

The braking system has been upgraded to match performance levels:

  • Bias-adjustable pedal box (driver adjustable)

  • Porsche Boxster front calipers

  • G60 front discs

  • CL6 and road pad options

  • Freakyparts rear sport disc conversion

  • Mintex 1144 rear pads

  • Bronze rear caliper bushes

  • Braided brake hoses

Pedal feel is firm and adjustable, with excellent consistency.

Interior
